Today we’re learning about something we hope you remember so you making memories with your family is something you can do for years to come!
Perhaps you have thought, “Summer BBQs, Holidays… These are all Special Exceptions! It’s just a bit of fun with the family… It would be fine to cheat! Let’s get some “standard buns”.
So, what are standard buns? Going to the standard grocery store, we get a standard package of buns, but when we look at the ingredients:
ENRICHED FLOUR [UNBLEACHED WHEAT FLOUR, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE (VITAMIN B1), RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), NIACIN (VITAMIN B3), FOLIC ACID], WATER, YEAST, SUGAR, SOYBEAN OIL, CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF SALT, WHEAT GLUTEN, CALCIUM PROPIONATE (A PRESERVATIVE), MONOGLYCERIDES, VINEGAR, SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, CALCIUM SULFATE, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, AMMONIUM SULFATE, DOUGH CONDITIONER (ASCORBIC ACID), WHEAT STARCH, SESAME FLOUR.
We have learned, the standard bun from the grocery store has NO STANDARDS AT ALL!! Besides being not Certified Organic, so the grains have been sprayed with chemicals, pesticides, and fertilized with sewer sludge and other chemicals.
That’s just mentioning a few issues. What about the 7% of ingredients that does not have to be listed?? Do you realize not one of these ingredients would enter our bakery, and they should never enter your mouth!
Wait! You’re worth way more than that!! And so are your family and friends!
But what about a standard organic or natural bun? Who is the company owned by? How can a massive conglomeration of companies have high standards?
- The biggest ingredient to watch out for in any bread is vital wheat gluten or added gluten.
- These bakeries are starting high gluten flour. How can your body digest this concentration of gluten?
- What about the ascorbic acid that is used as a dough conditioner?
- Cultured wheat flour is often confused with sourdough, but is a lab made ingredient and IS NOT SOURDOUGH!
Look out for junk seed oils that your body does not digest properly!! Canola Oil, Sunflower Oil, and many more are found in the average organic bread among soy products, Sesame Oil and Sesame Seeds.
We ONLY use Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Organic Coconut Oil in our bakery! 🙂
What are the enzymes that are added to factory bread? It is only a nice word for dough conditioners! Our body does not need synthetic enzymes added to our food. We need REAL WHOLE FOOD!
We do not need any of the above junk ingredients we listed to make bread, but it takes A LOT MORE WORK, which we LOVE! It is always a pleasure baking for you!
